Not sure if he was just misinformed or the release date was pushed forward since his keynote, but contrary to what president and CEO Howard Stringer said during Sony’s IFA 2010 press event in Berlin, the next PS3 firmware update which will introduce 3D Blu-Ray movie compatibility is actually coming out this month. On September 21st, to be precise.
Official announcement was made yesterday during Sony’s Tokyo Game Show press conference and then reiterated by VP of Network Operations Eric Lempel on the PlayStation Blog.
Firmware version is going to be the 3.50 and it won’t simply introduce Blu-Ray 3D movie support. Apparently “there will be a few additional features”, Lempel says, which will be revealed next Monday, a day before the firmware 3.50 goes live.
