Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception Announced Supports stereoscopic 3D

The third episode of the lots-of-awards winning franchise Uncharted by Naughty Dog was officially announced today. And it will support S3D!
Teaser trailer and first information after the jump.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception follows the fortune hunter Nathan Drake in his search for the fabled “Atlantis of the Sands” in the Arabian Peninsula, alongside the longtime friend and mentor Victor Sullivan.

This journey will take us to “spectacular new locations around the globe that will showcase all of the work we’ve taken on to take our physics, particle and visual effects to a new level”, Naughty Dog proudly reveals. Among those effects, you can expect the sand equivalent of the snow awesomeness seen in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Going by the official press release, a new hand-to-hand combat system will be in place which will allow Nathan Drake to fight with multiple enemies. New contextual melee attacks and new stealth options are promised, as well as “expanded and diverse traversal moves with deep gunplay”.

As for S3D support, it is described as “high-resolution Stereoscopic 3D”, which can mean anything between 480p and 1080p really. Expect it to be sub-HD at 30fps.

Competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes first introduced to the series with Uncharted 2 will return in Uncharted 3. No details are given yet but the developer is apparently keen to give the whole online thing a significant boost as they “want to take on the big boys of the multi-player genre,” as Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells humbly said to Entertainment Weekly.

Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is expected to be one of the main attractions of the upcoming VGA event (alongside Resistance 3 by the way…), to be aired on December 11.
