Valve working on Move support for Portal 2 [UPDATE: But Doug Lombardi says the opposite]

Portal 2 LogoJust when you thought the PlayStation 3 version of the highly anticipated first person puzzler Portal 2 couldn’t sound any more “definitive”, comes the news that it will also support the PlayStation Move. Or that’s the plan.

The confirmation comes from Valve’s writer Chet Faliszek, via an interview conducted by the German PlayStation Blog.
According to the translation provided by Eurogamer, it looks like the PlayStataion Move support comes as some sort of compensation to the Sony people for not getting a PS3 version of Left 4 Dead, and for the abysmal Orange Box.

More importantly tho, it appears that the Move implementation is still undergoing, which makes this a confirmation that they are working on it, rather than it’s definitely coming. You never know. Things might not work out etc.

But let’s hope it comes. With PlayStation Move support on top of the already announced cloud saving, cross-platform play with PC gamers (via Steam) and a free downloadable PC version included, the PS3 edition of Portal 2 could really turn out to be the “best version on any console” Gabe Newell promised at E3 2010.
Portal 2 is due to be released on April 22.

[UPDATE] Looks like PlayStation Move support is not gonna happen in Portal 2 after all. With reference to the above news, Valve spokesman Doug Lombardi got in touch with Eurogamer to clarify that “this quote was ‘lost in translation’ – Portal 2 does not include support for Sony’s motion controller”.

Oh well, it was exciting while it lasted.
